She was accepted into the Pre-Veterinary Medicine Program at the University of New Hampshire and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in 2004. Carie then moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2008. Carol Vavra, D.V.M., C.V.A.

Dr. Carol Vavra is the Acupuncturist and Integrative Medicine Veterinarian at VESH.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the United States Air Force Academy in 1986 and, after 7 years in the Air Force, went to veterinary school at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. While in Hawaii, Dr. Vavra developed an interest in acupuncture and became certified in veterinary acupuncture through the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2001. Once she began using acupuncture to treat animals she saw the incredible benefits of using integrative veterinary medicine - combining conventional treatments such as medication and surgery with acupuncture and other forms of complementary medicine. Her goal is to treat as many animals as possible and talk with clients and veterinarians about how to provide the best quality of life for the animals in their care. Dr. Vavra grew up in upstate NY and is very happy to be back in the Northeast. When not at work she and her husband Paul enjoy traveling, cooking, and spending time with their three cats - Friskie, Gimp, and Bobbie.
