Carie L.
Weismantel, DVM
Dr. Carie
Weismantel is a graduate of the University
of Minnesota and
has two positions with VESH; she is an Emergency Veterinarian and also the
Chief of Staff.
Carie L.
Weismantel was born and raised in Rochester, NH.
She started her career in veterinary medicine by earning her Associate degree
in Veterinary Technology from the New Hampshire
Technical College
in Stratham, NH
in 1999. She worked as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at a local veterinary
practice for just a year before deciding to pursue further training to become
a Veterinarian. In order to return to college full time and continue her
career as a technician, Carie began working nights and weekends for a local
emergency clinic and found her passion in the fast-paced, high pressure,
rewarding field of emergency medicine. She was accepted into the Pre-Veterinary
Medicine Program at the University
of New Hampshire and earned her
Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in 2004. Carie then moved to Saint
Paul, Minnesota and attended
the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, earning her
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2008. Carie had the privilege of
working with both Dr. Selvi Kumaresan-Lampman and Dr. Timothy Lampman while
she was a technician; upon returning to her home state she was very excited
to accept a position working along side them at VESH. Carie began working as
an Associate Emergency Veterinarian in September 2008 and in November 2008
she assumed the additional role of Chief of Staff. In addition to her passion
and enthusiasm for emergency medicine, Carie also has special interests in
quality end of life care, pain management and the human-animal bond. Carie
shares her life with a 4 year old Whippet Basenji mixed breed dog named Allie
Mae and a 45 year old painted turtle named TJ. Carie lives in Union,
New Hampshire and enjoys cooking,

Carol
Vavra, D.V.M., C.V.A.
Dr. Carol
Vavra is the Acupuncturist and Integrative Medicine Veterinarian at VESH.
She received her
Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the United
States Air Force
Academy in 1986 and, after 7
years in the Air Force, went to veterinary school at Kansas State University
College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating in 1998, she lived in Hawaii
and Florida, working in both
general practice and emergency veterinary hospitals, and was also active in
the Air Force Reserves. While in Hawaii,
Dr. Vavra developed an interest in acupuncture and became certified in
veterinary acupuncture through the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese
Medicine in 2001. Once she began using acupuncture to treat animals she saw
the incredible benefits of using integrative veterinary medicine - combining
conventional treatments such as medication and surgery with acupuncture and
other forms of complementary medicine. Her goal is to treat as many animals
as possible and talk with clients and veterinarians about how to provide the
best quality of life for the animals in their care. Dr. Vavra grew up in
upstate NY and is very happy to be back in the Northeast. When not at work
she and her husband Paul enjoy traveling, cooking, and spending time with
their three cats - Friskie, Gimp, and Bobbie.
